Danny Moloshok has been covering Rock Star: Supernova the entire season. He and Jeff Bottari covered the finale this week and wrote about their experience.

We arrived at CBS at 6:30am to prepare to cover the finale of the Mark Burnett Reality show Rock Star: Supernova. Between the two of us we used four cameras to cover the final moment when they announced Lukas Rossi as the winner.

We rigged two remote cameras to Danny's main camera that he was shooting with a 300mm, f/2.8 lens. Each remote camera had a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. One camera was mounted on the upstairs balcony to capture the winning moment a bit wide from above, and the second was down below to capture a wide shot from straight on. At the same time, Danny was shooting a tight reaction shot with the 300mm.

Jeff was in front of Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke to photography them announcing Lukas as the winner. He then went to the upper balcony to shoot Lukas's excitement at his first performance as leader of the new band.

For the group photo we only had about 30 seconds after the show. That was shot with a 17-35mm lens with a flash used off-camera with a cord. All in all it was a long day, but we were happy with the results and had a great time working together this summer on the show.

The remotes were triggered with Pocket Wizard multimax transceivers to sync the three cameras Danny was controlling. With the transmitter on the hot shoe of Danny's main camera, it triggered the other two cameras each time Danny shot a frame. The stage is extremely dark, although it looks bright on television. They shot with Canon cameras at an exposure of about 1/160 at f/2.8 at 1000 ISO. Sometimes they'd go as low as 1/80th of a second and the image stabilizer on the 70-200 helps a lot in those moments.

A Canadian, Lukas received great press in his home country, including some shots from Danny and Jeff that ran with a story in the Toronto Star.
