Life on the Steep Side of the Hill

When people find out what I do for a living I usually get one of three replies. The first is, "wow that's a really cool job! " though often I hear "how can I get a job like you have?" The one the one that gets my blood pressure up though is "are you Paparazzi?"

Well the last one is easy to answer No! I am not a paparazzi, I am a Vancouver based Editorial and Commercial photographer. "You never really see paparazzi photographers" I tell them "just the pictures they have taken appear, they hide bushes and trees like monkeys....

24p Video - What is it?

Here's my cameraman, Ralf Oberti, in a souped-up 1929 Ford Roadster.

I've just finished production and post-production on 3 new programs about street racing for Discovery Networks International, all of which were shot in 24p HDTV.

If you look at the new DV and HDV prosumer camcorders that are coming out, many of them offer either true or simulated 24p recording as a key feature, and you may have wondered what that means...

Photographers are gadget hounds...

I love technology. I thrive on it. As a photojournalist, it makes perfect sense to me that I have every advantage of shooting a picture and getting it back before the next guy. When cell phones came along, I thought this is the answer to transmitting a photo back to the paper. But it was clunky and cumbersome, and easier to find a motel or rest stop to hook up to a phone line and drop a $20 on the waitress for the help....
